Jesters pies is a jaffle pie chain that can be found in most pockets of Auckland. Their produce go by the name jaffle pies because they are made in a sandwhich press type pie making machine. Like most chains, Jesters buttery meat filled pastries, are ideal to grab on the run. I’m especially a fan of the butter chicken themed Taj Mahal and the classic mince and cheese Billy T.
Tried them the other day as I was after a quick cheap snack before movies. I noticed their prices have gone up since the last time I had Jesters which was about a year ago although the size of pies have stayed the same. The pastry wasn't very nice as it seemed like it wasn't cooked through, and the fillings inside were mediocre. Healthwise I doubt they're much healthier than traditional pies from bakeries. You'd have to eat at least 2-3 pies in order to have a decent lunch, by which time with the amount of money spend you'd have been better off spending it elsewhere. It's ok if you want a quick snack but with Burger King and a sushi shop nearby you're better off getting those options instead.
Jesters offer good valued, healthy and top that off with tasty, then if you're a pie fan, pop in and pick up a pie from Jesters! Ka Pai and Maharajah are firm favourites, and the dessert pies are quite a yummy choice to follow your main pie. No point still lamenting poor old Georgie, go and grab a Jesters', enjoy the pie and appreciate the creative genius gone into naming them. Enjoy!
