I love the pure Englishness of Jolly Good Fellows within its New Zealand setting. Set on lakefront, visitors can enjoy a cold brew while looking out to the mass expense of water that characterises Lake Taupo. I love that a Jolly Good Fellows outing can be eually pleasant in summer or winter - the view never goes away!

As I can’t get to England for this year’s Rugby World Cup, well I’ll bring England to me. Jolly Good Fellows is well loved by Taupo locals and UK visitors alike for its rustic old English pub feels to it. It’s a sweet, cosy spot to watch our ABs defend their champion title over the next month and a bit, with a pint or two on the side!

Jolly Good Fellows is my favourite place to drink and eat in Taupo. It’s really just a simply english pub style establishment but what I really love about is its location – it looks straight out onto Lake Taupo and the mountain ranges beyond it. I’s a sweet place to stop after work for a wine, a few small plates to share (try their fried calamari) resulting in a totally relaxing arvo on the shores of my favourite lake.

Jolly Good Fellows is such a Taupo icon, and maintains its same ‘jolly’ atmosphere even during the cold winter months. I love its real pub feel when I walk in after a hectic long day and I am welcomed by the familiar faces…and a cold pint of beer.

Great outlook of the lake while you enjoy a long lunch in the sun, especially over Summer. Great, English pub style food. Try their crispy pepper squid to start, and a bottle of chardonnay or pinot gris to share with good friends. Definitely one to check out if you’re in Taupo over Labour Weekend.

If you love Guiness in everything, try Jolly Good Fellows’ Beef & Guinness Pasie - Beef marinated in Jolly’s special Guinness mix, encased in pastry, and served with chips and a green garden salad. This is a real winter warmer, and is paired excellently with an actual pint of Guinness. Enjoy it all with a stunning view of Lake Taupo as you munch down on one of Taupo’s best.

Beautiful setting right across from the lake, Jollys is a casual ‘British Pub’ themed restaurant & Bar with great service, the latest sport on SKY, big TV screens, and 14 beers on tap. It’s away from the hustle and bustle of Taupo town on a Friday or Saturday night but close enough to Taupo central to not have to drive or Taxi to far. It’s a great place to watch rugby, the Breakers, or of course, the FIFA World Cup.

This is one of the best bars in town to watch the sunset from. Grab a beer and relax on the balcony before the action kicks off after dark. As with most traditional English bars there is lots of live music and plenty of dancing.
