I enjoyed a fantastic feed of fresh battered snapper and crispy, crunchy chips here on the park bench out front with an actress mate after being at the epic outdoor festival Splore that happens just up the road from Kawakawa in February each year. After dancing and festival-going for three days, it was some of the best fish and chips I've ever tasted. But this isn't just one of my favourite fish and chip shops in Auckland just because of one visit. No, I've been back since and loved the experience even more. You can also take your fish and chips in paper (just like they used to come) down to the beach and enjoy a feed looking out across Kawakawa Bay with seagulls swooping all around. Classic Kiwi experience!

if you set off from Auckland on the Pacific Coast Highway just before you reach the Seabird coast you come to Kawakawa Bay.  This is a great point to break your journey and grab your self an ice cream. You will not be disappointed, the size of the ice creams they serve are huge. Heaps of flavour's to choose from too. I can guarantee you will struggle to finish it.
