You don’t always think of soup when you think of Italian… but I was taken by surprise when my Mum ordered the onion soup as an entree at Leonardo’s. Damn was it every so tasty! Packed with flavour and served with a stick of crispy garlic bread, this dih is an absolute winnner.

Leonardo’s was once Rotorua local’s little secret, but after rave reviews and taking out the top spot at the local hospitality awards their popularity has gone through the roof. You can always count on Italian to satisfy and Leonardo’s does not disappoint… and more-so will exceed your expectations with stunningly authentic Italian that belies its low-key and humble premises.

Leonardo’s is small, cozy, bustling and authentic; the way an Italian restaurant should be. The restaurant is very intimate so make sure you book to secure a spot, as this place is popular. They have a small, refined menu built around seasonal and fresh produce. I suggest the mussels and pipis if you’re into seafood, or the pork porchetta is also amazing. Don’t forget to finish with a classic Italian dessert such as tiramisu, which of course is also to die for!
