Lions Walk (also referred to as Great Lake Walkway) is one of the most popular walking and cycling tracks in the Taupo region. Taking you around a 10km section of the lake reserve, the track was created by the Taupo Lions Club.

Beginning at Taupo Boat Harbour where Redoubt St meets Ferry Rd, the walkway leads to Wharewaka Point via Two Mile Bay.

With magnificent views of the mountains of the Tongariro National Park and plenty of picnic areas and swimming spots to enjoy, there are toilets and BBQ facilities available enroute, along with a kids playground and plenty of ducks to feed.

Great place for a run with man's best friend - your dog of course. The lengthy track ensures plenty of exercise for your pooch, and he/she will love you for it! There are also lots of grassy areas for a game of catch and sticks. Kill two bird with one stone and get your daily exercise and dog walk in at the same time. You'll also meet many like-minded peeps on the walkway and a few woof-friends for your four-legged friend.

Also known as the Great Lake Taupo Walkway, the Lions Walk makes a very pleasant 10km bike ride along the Lake Taupo shorefront. Get on your bike during NZ's bike wise month and burn those calories while soaking in the tranquil lake surroundings of Taupo. There are a number of picnic spots on the way too, so make an afternoon of it!
