Matuku Farm Gardens is a private garden but open to the public, The entrance is marked by a simple iron gate, behind which lies a formal lawn and deep twin borders framed by a totara hedge. Betty mixes shrubs, including roses and perennials, to create splashes of colour. A contrasting woodland walk adds another dimension. Rhododendrons and camellias are a feature in spring and later an extensive collection of clematis growing through roses, amongst shrubs and over hedges and arches adds interest and flower power. In an informal area there is a pond and small stream and from here a path leads to a woodland area where hostas, pulmonaria and lamium and other shade-loving plants are very much at home. There is also an area of young native bush.

Matuku Farm Gardens is a beautiful English style garden located on East Takaka Road, in Golden Bay. The garden is inspired by some of England's greatest gardens including Sissinghurst, Wisley and Hidcote. There's a $5 entry fee and for that you get to wander through established woodlands and a beautiful formal garden. There's a lovely pond, a traditional devonshire cob cottage and a great collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, and camelias. Open to visitors September to March.
