Friendly counter service, the host is always cheerful and happy. Best beef tacos ever and the prawn taco is not bad too (but it has olives in them so if you like olives, give it a go). Everything is freshly made with a generous topping of guacamole. Delicious! Try it now!

      If you want to try the most authentic Mexican food in Auckland then you need to make time in the diary on a Friday or Saturday to make the trip to Ellerslie between the hours of 10am and 3pm to sample the delights of Mexican Specialities cafe. Rarely open, the cafe has been running since 2004 but is only open for two days because the food experience here is very, very special. The definition of a hidden gem, Mexican Specialities is an excellent place to go if you want to create your own authentic Mexican meals at home and there's a whole heap of gorgeous gifts too. Well worth taking time out of your busy schedule for!

          The food is sensational. A perfect balance of spices, you are left with such a nice long lingering aftertaste. Genuine Mexican food. And the staff are so friendly.

            Very authentic Mexican food to eat in or take home groceries to make at home. Limited hours and days make it a challenge to always get a seat but it’s definitely worth the effort.

              Cosy like the embrace of a loved one and fresh like crisp spring water, Mexican Specialties is a smack of tradition with the convenience of the era we live in. Love the authentic burritos and cultural treats on offer lovingly made and beautifully presented.

                A little taste of Mexico hidden away on the streets of Ellerslie.  The decor is unique, colourful and vibrant as is the food.  They even have authentic Mexican hot chocolate direct from the mother country which sends your taste buds into warm, chockablock overdrive. Be warned, this place gets busy and opening hours are just as scarce so planning your visit can become essential.

                  Mexican Specialities is one of the places I like to go as a special treat - as often as possible! Unfortunately due to it's location in Ellerslie it is not as often as I'd like. I am happy to sit down by myself and order the unctuous bean dip with house made corn chips and the sublime prawn taco. If I am feeling particularly indulgent I top it off with the spicy Mexican hot chocolate. Heaven.

                    Mexican Specialities is hands down my favourite Mexican place in Auckland. Great food and great service.
