The only natural soda water geyser in the world is here on display for free at Te Aroha, one of the delightful townships in the Waikato.

Come and bring your friends, family and a picnic to enjoy this easy walk. Main access to the geyser is steep but there is an alternative path that makes it easier for wheelchairs and prams alike.

Marvel at the wondrous bore of bubbling and frizzy water, producing 28,000 litres per day between 75-85°C. So as they say in museums, look but don't touch!

Right at the base of Mt Te Aroha is the Mokena Geyser. It’s one of those forces of nature that never fail to astound. It’s also the world’s first hot soda spring geyser. I took my cousins here while they were on holiday in NZ last year to witness the geyser spurting out. It took a 45 minute wait, but was so worth it!

Nothing is more NZ than witnessing our natural geothermal activity and a friend from the Waikato took me to this really cool little spot just out of Te Aroha. The Mokena Geyser is free to see and is the only natural soda water geyser in the world. Plus it's just a five minute walk to get to and once you've seen it, you can soak in the mineral pools that it supplies just around the corner. Free fun and total bliss!
