In the heart of Northland's geothermal region, Ngawha Hot Springs offers a range of pools at varying temperatures, from cool to the very hot 'Doctor' and black coloured 'Bulldog'.
Popular with locals and tourists, local Maori have bathed here since the pre-European days.
With friendly staff and basic facilities, the pools are family-run with prices that won't break the bank. The natural mud pools include one suitable for pregnant women and all have therapeutic properties and are great for stress relief.
Its a good way to warm up on a cold winters day and soak away all life's worries.

Everyone loves a good long soak in the Ngawha hot pools. It’s a sure crowd pleaser and easily slides under the $20 mark. Just make sure you wear your least favourite pair of togs as it’s pretty hard to get the sulphur smell out of them after!

It's lovely to sink yourself into a sizzling hot pool when the air is icy frigid outside. A visit to Ngawha is just the ticket and a great place to bring guests too. It's pretty cheap ($5 or $10) and there are two hot pools you can go to. The first one you reach is run privately, the second one is run by the local iwi. I went to the first one before but I'd be keen to try out the second one (I've heard whispers that it's better). Either way this is a fabulous winter activity sure to warm your bones!

Warm your bones in these thoroughly unpretentious pools. Only $5 per person, and the kids will entertain themselves seeing how hot they can handle, while you soak it up. You can even use the silt on the bottom of the pools for an all-natural exfoliating scrub.
