Very well located with nice views of Mt Eden with lots of early morning sunshine. The coffee is very good and the service relaxed. As time goes by Olaf's Mt Eden is gaining quite a following. I think it is because the food is very good, it is the kind of place one would go to for a special lunch with visitors or friends. Me and my staff go often and often we leave with a wonderful loaf of bread baked on the premises by the baker who you can watch baking. The baker who has worked from the early hours to insure a fresh supply of baked goods for the customers. Olafs is certainly setting the standard for food and particularly baking in the Mt Eden cafe area.
My wife and I read about Olaf's in 'Garden' magazine. We decided to check it out for a quick coffee. It was quite busy on a Saturday morning but we were quickly attended to and given our coffees. The prices were fair and the quality of the coffee was great. The atmosphere of the cafe was a bit loud for my taste. There were also plenty of newspapers around to occupy your time if that's your style.
what ever your budget there is wonderful food , fine baking , great coffee , a wonderful breakfast and lunch time menu at Olafs . the staff of parking and sleeping nz like hanging out at Olafs . We love the small cakes in the display cabinet , they have such wonderful toppings . parking and sleping staff enjoy the great out doors even on a cold blustery day Fom Olafs where ever you sit there is a great view of Mt Eden so we might see you there . oh and do not forget to try there great loaves of bread and take one home you might just gain a habit .
This cafe is pricey and the portions mean. $17.50 for french toast which basically was a spoonful of compote, two thin sticks of french toast and a small dollop of ricotta. Truffled eggs were basic scrambled eggs with truffle - nothing special. The quinoa salad is again a small portion but tasty enough. The fruit smoothies are $8 each and really not rave worthy. We've been here twice wouldn't come back. Apart from the food the decor is fantastic. Well lit, sunny and it's nice to be able to watch the bakers.
