With a beautiful view and a great chance of getting a plentiful catch, Onaero Beach is the perfect place to come for a relaxing day of fishing.
There are plenty of kahawai just off the beach, and snapper further out to sea, plus the water is teeming with whitebait if you happen to go in the right season.
The beach is also a great place to spend a weekend, with a holiday park and baches for rent in the area. There are heaps of ways to occupy yourself, including scenic walks, fishing and a local brewery nearby.

Although Onaero Beach is more renown for it’s fishing capabilities, the swimming is very fun; especially when you have kids to play with! The waves for the most part are nice and gentle so it’s perfect for the kids to swim for splash around in! It’s has a really nice walk as well, with a decent enough length that you get some exercise but don’t get too tired for a swim at the end of it!
Onaero Beach is somewhere peaceful to come and get your catch of the day. One thing that is really special is if it’s in the right season, you can fish for whitebait! Pure NZ white gold, it could give the average fisherman some great return on his efforts, or he could freeze it for later when the fish are gone! The views are amazing on cloudless days.
