Whether this place is a stop for some food and a beer on the way through Opononi, or somewhere to stay the night while exploring Northland, it's a great place to drop in to.

The Opononi Hotel has great views of the Hokianga Harbour, and is only 15 minutes drive away from the famous giant Kauri, Tane Mahuta. They have 10 oceanside rooms for hire, with private balconies to take in the great scene.

There's live music there on occasion, and with some great NZ musicians playing, it would be a shame to miss it. Plus the welcoming atmosphere and great company make it's a hard little place to resist.

It’s an obvious pick for a place to drink with a view. The Opo as they call it around here, has wonderful views of the opposing sand dunes that look out over the Hokianga Harbor. It’s cozy pub is a perfect spot to bring your mates or family for mean feeds and beverages over the summer. They’re also renown for their epic live music during summer too!

    If a classic Kiwi Pub is defined by amazing kiwi characters, service and seaside views then The Opononi Hotel is the golden standard! They’re often home to epic kiwi bands during the summer. I’m always keeping an eye out for anything going on at this joint as it never fails to entertain! Pro tip on coming here is to order the fish burger - AMAZING!

      Kids can run wild at the Opononi Hotel. I love how you can sit up on the deck and keep an eagle eye on them mucking around at the beach just meters away. They have lots of kid friendly food like pizza bread, thick cut fries and a banana boat for dessert. The kids will love it!

        Opononi Hotel is one of the best places to party in rural Northland. South Hokianga is so sparsely populated and beautiful you’ll be surprised to see this bar buzzing and bustling amongst the still, serene sand dunes. Not to be missed!

          With the beach a stone’s throw away, stunning sun sets and a hearty tribe of locals this is a majestic pub. When I’m passing through I’ll often stop here and have a vino just to enjoy the view. Otherwise rad musicians put on events here most weekends making it the ultimate place to be in the Hokianga.

            Spacious with a sea breeze and friendly staff, the Opononi Hotel offers the perfectly relaxed atmosphere to settle into a game. Get a burger to give yourself something more to shout about.
