Paihia Beach is a sandy beach located along Paihia's busy waterfront. Just a short walk from the wharf, it's a great spot to relax and watch the tourist boats come and go as they head out to explore the Bay of Islands.

A popular choice for swimmers, the beach and grassy area behind also attract many sun bathers, picnic makers and those wishing to launch their sailing boats and kayaks.

With plenty of shops, cafes and accommodation options nearby, check out the annual open ocean water swim between Russell and Paihia which finishes here and attracts a lively group of spectators.

My favorite part of Paihia Beach is the sweet pontoon that rests about 20 meters off the sandy shore, perfect for soaking up the sun and relaxing with buddies. I quite often enjoy the odd game of king of the hill with mates on the pontoon. Last one standing!

Paihia Beach has recently got one of those rad swimming platforms installed. It's about 100m off shore opposite Alfrescos. Who needs fancy cruises and swanky dinners when you have your very own island off an exquisite beach? Not me! I love swimming out to the platform, lazing around, practicing my diving then swimming back at my leisure - it's mean!

Paihia Beach is one of my regulars. The orange sand is comfy to lay a towel down on, there’s heaps of shade for long reading sessions and the water is warm, not too wavy and deep enough for a decent swim. A bonus is all the local cafes and ice cream parlours for a post-beach treat.
