Pepper Tree Garden consists of a plant nursery and a four and half acre garden which sits on the banks of the Kauaeranga River 8km east of Thames.
The wholesale plant nursery sells a range of trees and shrubs, specialising in Japanese maples, vireyas, hydrangeas, hostas and grevilleas.
Owners John and Trish Uffindel are still developing the garden area which features magnificent views over the valley. With stone wall paths leading you to a number of colourful gardens which are situated on different levels, there are also several interesting water plants growing along the edge of the river.
Open by appointment, the gardens are a popular spot for weddings and events.

This is a real 'growing' garden - still in it's infancy stages, but packed full of those rare plants and flowers only gran knows about. Open by appointment, this was another place I decide to take my gran to visit while she was in NZ on holiday. Lucky I have a pretty decent sized-car, as gran went shopping crazy in the nursery and picked a whole bunch of plants to plant at mum and dads. We should have thought to bring a picnic too as the garden is situated in a gorgeous park-like setting with picturesque views of the valley - next time!
