Peter Barwick Orthodontist

We noticed my daughter had a cross bite when she was about 6 or 7 years old. I thought I probably should get it checked out just in case. I went to an orthodontist (no names) and was told she needs 4 baby teeth out which would require a general anesthetic and then treatment to expand the top jaw, all for around $3000. When I asked so this will prevent braces later and save me money later...I was informed no she will still need full braces later. Dumbfounded, I went to get a 2nd opinion. Once again I was told she needed a plate retainer at around $3000 and I also noticed the person was not a qualified Orthodontist just a Dentist with a certificate. Big difference.  Again I asked if this will prevent braces later and save me money when she is older. Again I was informed no she will still need full braces later. Apparently for the same cost as if nothing else had been done as far as I can work out.  I was despairing so I asked some friends and someone referred me to Peter Barwick orthodontist in Remuera.  Well I could kiss them. Peter was wonderful. He is so well qualified and experienced, and such an honest, nice man.  He basically said any treatment done now will need to be done later anyway as the jaw of children grows so much. When he learned I'd paid quite a lot for the other opinions he very kindly only charged me a very reasonable amount for the consultation.  My daughter gets a reminder for a check up each year and will be reassessed soon now her adult teeth are starting to all come in.  Thanks Peter. We need more honest people like you.
