The Piggery Secondhand Book Shop began life as overspill storage for the then owner's Auckland store. However locals soon learned to peruse the piggery for hard to find books.

It came to rest in its current location in the mid 1990s. The shop itself was formerly a garden centre, and before that, a motorcycle mechanic's workshop - hence the fruit trees in the back yard and the oil stains on the floor.

The Piggery Secondhand Book Shop is the perfect place to pig out and bury your snout in a great new tale. They have something for everyone ranging from the littlies to the oldies and the fun and fluffy to the super serious. I always find a good read at a good price here.

Personally, I can think of no better activity for a rainy day (and if it ain’t broke…) than getting lost in a bookshop, heading home, curling up and absorbing myself in a story. Some good reads to look out for include the very funny Hokitika Town by Charlotte Randall, Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin, or if you’re a non-fiction fan, The Good Girls Revolt by Lynn Povich. Or maybe you’re more visual? DVDs and popcorn, all the way home.

With a huge selection of anything from New Zealand fiction to sci-fi, romance and health books, it pays to keep a close eye on your beloved bookworms here, or you may never see them again.
