Point Chevalier Beach is one of the best beaches on the Waitemata harbour and certainly the best west of the city. With its safe swimming, ample shade and the excellent playground in adjacent Colye Park, it makes a great inner city outing for the family.

The beach is well sanded and offers good swimming near high tide. The best place to put down a blanket is at the southern end, where there is a flat grassy area with plenty of shade. It is quite a walk from the carpark, so it's best to park along Harbour View Rd and take one of the paths down to the beach.

This is a super family friendly spot! There's space for everyone at Pt Chev and the water is safe for smaller children to swim in. I have been with friends and younger siblings on many occasions and it proves to be the perfect spot for a summer picnic with the youngins.

    A lovely park for kids to play - and when the tide is up a great place to swim!

      Off lead until 10am and after 4pm now it's winter… So you can drop the kids at school and still get a good hour of exercise, peeing on bushes and bum sniffing (dog not me!)

        We love going to Pt Chev beach to watch the sun set. The beach is facing in just the right direction to have a beautiful view of the sun as it sinks into the horizon. You can take a picnic with you, or your dog(s) for a walk. Or just chill out on the sand and watch the colors in the sky change - it's magical! And so close to central Auckland! 

          Went for a picnic with a group of friends at Point Chevalier Beach. Truly had a marvellous time under the sunny weather. It was so calm, peaceful and very relaxing. Looking out into the ocean was absolutely beautiful. We also picked many shells along the way.

            had a wonderful time down at the beach!It was a really unique place and some friends and I made the most of it!We sung a few songs together in a small cave and then did some jumping and diving off the rocks!!It was a great time and I think everyone should try out swimming here!

                Tucked away on the coastline of Auckland suburb Pt Chevalier, Pt Chev beach is a great spot for a swim and a picnic. Easy access and free parking - and just around the corner from the fantastic kids' playground at Coyle Park.
