The Recycle Boutique just off Queen Street has been a bargain hunters’ dream for years now, and stocked great finds and vintage before the term was ever applied to second hand clothing. It is still one of the best places to pick up well priced, Pre-loved pieces, and the selection is huge and ever-changing due to the serious traffic that comes through its doors.
I love coming here when I have a lot of time on my hands to trawl through all the interesting clothes on offer. It can be a bit hit and miss and you do have to have a bit of patience, but you can find some cool stuff! Just be careful as some things are not that great quality, but most are pretty good and some even have their original tags still attached. You can sell your old clothes also which can be good if you are too lazy to list on Trade Me.
If you're a regular on the op-shop circuit you're likely to currently be wearing some very vogue brogues, a few vintage pieces of jewelry, and jeans that look like they were painted on. But if you're not, it's not a big deal. I always feel as though I'm a wannabe hipster when I stray into most Op Shops but RB is different - it has more of a casual, "just here to pick up a jumper and a pair of shorts" feel to it. If you spend the time (or if you're just plain lucky) you can pick up some mean finds and never have to lose sleep over sweatshop labour. Unless, you know, you're into that kind of thing.
I've visited Recycle Boutique a few weeks ago, and I'm a guy so i went to go look at the men's section. There's some good stuff, lots of cool sweaters and shirts. Occasionally you'll find something wow, and I've found a vintage oversized bomber jacket with a lambs wool shawl collar. That's pretty awesome. So definitely give it a visit, it is well stocked with great things, and you could find something one-of-a-kind.
