I always am up for trying new Japanese restaurants and was delighted to find one in the CBD on Localist. Stopped by after work one day with a few workmates and we were seated really quickly. Tried Sake for the first time and absolutely loved it! The staff kept the good stuff flowing and we eventually left with full bellies and smiles on our faces. Great place to be if you are in the CBD or one of the universities nearby. Thanks Renkon!
Came here upon suggestion of friends. Easy to miss as it's a tiny little shop off the sidewalk, with just a few tables and chairs available. Menu is small but has the basics like ramen, soups and katsu don. They have two different sizes available, large is $11 and small is $7. Food's good, although price isn't very competitive, considering a much bigger and better priced Japanese restaurant is only a few metres away on Lorne Street. Good for quick takeaway or sit down lunch though.
This location in the city is just as good as the one closer to me in Ponsonby. I like that you can take your meals to the bar next door and eat there if Renkon is filled up. The seats outside are nice on a sunny day also. The miso chicken katsu is the only thing I ever order and it's fantastic. The rice is chewy and delicious, fresh shredded veggies and the chicken is always crispy and moist inside. A rare meal of which I will be able to finish it all by my self. The prices are fantastic too.
