Hi, I’m Sarah and I’m addicted to teriyaki tofu. It was a friend who first put me on to Renkon and for the past couple of years it has become a weekly guilty pleasure. No one else can make tofu quite like they can - trust me they have been known to convert even my most carnivorous of friends. The Pitt street staff are always really friendly and never fail to have a smile on their face even as they have lines out the door. Renkon wins at life.
Renkon Pitt Street is me, Jordan, and Alan's (pictured) literally favorite place to go for dinner. We're addicted. We love the Salmon Karaage Don with extra Mayo - it's the best. Definitely also order a side of Edamame, and an Asahi each! It's decadent so we only do it to treat ourselves - but it makes us all feel SO HAPPY every time we go....mmmmm Renkon.
It took me a year of living in Auckland to discover Renkon and I never looked back. For $11.50 you get a really decent sized meal and everything on the menu is delicious - I recommend the salmon (or tofu) teriyaki and the chicken sauce-katsu on rice. The Pitt St restaurant is licensed, but in Ponsonby you can sit at Mea Culpa next door and they'll bring your meal over to you. And try the Takapuna restaurant - get takeaways in summer and sit on the beach. Perfect.
