Sal's Pizza in New Zealand was started by 2 longtime friends - Nick from Auckland, NZ and Ciaran from Queens, New York.

The name comes from Salvatore 'Sal' Leo, who owns Sal's Pizza in Queens and shared with Ciaran his legendary recipes. Nick, who spent four years of university in the US, always wished there was a place in Auckland where you could get a great slice of New York-style pizza. So in 2008 Nick and Ciaran decided to make this dream a reality by opening Sal's Pizza in Auckland.

Now anyone can go in an grab a slice of authentic NY-style pizza, half a world away from the original.

Very very close to as good as the pizza I had in New York.  Great thin base, lots of flavour and huge.  By far the best pizza I've had on the Shore.  Just wish they did a few more flavours.

    Heard first seen a pizza box of this outside in my neighbourhood- it was huge. They have great giant sized pizzas, authentic NY! Was quite excited when I heard it was opening on the shore. Came here with friends to check it out and have a nice catchup. Decent location, have to park a bit away, but not too far. Great service. Good topping selection. Nice food, decent value. Will try again!

      I had heard only good things about Sals so I thought we’d give it a go for dinner one night. I have quite bland taste buds and like very plain food but for me this pizza really had no flavor. It was impressive in size but covered in a plain chesse which is not very rich in flavor! It is ok, not awful but after all the hype I expected something a lot more satisfying but give it a go yourself, would love to hear what others think :-)

        Couldn't believe how big the pizza was when it was delivered to our table! The pepperoni and mozzarella scrolls were delicious as well! We spent $40 on food and drink and came out of the restaurant so full, so for two people it was fairly cheap and worth the money. Didn't rate a full 5/5 because the service wasn't overly friendly but hey.. I'd still go back anytime!

          Have eaten at all of their Auckland locations, consistently the best pizza you can get in Auckland. Definitely authentic New York style. Massive slices and gigantic whole pizzas sure to fill you up. They even offer half and half as an option if you just can't decide or plan to split it with someone who wants different toppings than you!

            How could you turn down a slice of piping hot cheese pizza??! When in Takapuna, I always try to make room in my schedule (and tummy) for a slice. I have never been disappointed!

              I stumbled across Sal's when I was in Takapuna on afternoon & I was so glad I did! The pizza's are HUGE! Its the perfect thing to shear with a few friends! They dont have a huge selection of pizza's but you can get half & half pizza's for no additional cost.  I really liked the cheese pizza & my man liked the peperoni. We have been back several times & they are consistently good.   They do takeaway, dine in & also deliver. I took our leftovers home & had them for lunch the next day over a cider. They are really yum!

                Oh my goodness this place is the official home of the greatest pizza ever. So addictive and delicious! The pepperoni pizza is drool-worthy! Love it
