I love this little gem tucked away in Avondale. The coffee is to die for and they food is spot on. They have these amazing meringues that are huge and absolutely to die for! The decor is fun and quirky and heaps of room for a group and the family. The staff are super friendly and seem to love their jobs. Love the fact I work across the road from this place so never far away from awesome coffee. Go and visit one sunny arvo and enjoy all the treats they have to offer.

The cafe is lovely and spacious with really nice nick nacs to look at while you wait for your coffee. The dessert cabinet is my favourite. Although I did come here looking to try their famous cream donuts and honestly it was a HUGE disappointment. The cream wasn't sweet enough and it was thick, flavourless and also watery. I think it had been sitting there too long (I was there before midday) hence the water. The donut itself was nice enough but for me it's gotta be all about a delicious indulgent cream. Their lunch cabinet items are very nice. Their risotto is flavourful, and their pies have a great crust with a delicious meaty filling. The service is also very good and friendly.

I used to go often to this cafe and loved it. The same good quality food and coffee remained, but boy what a chaotic service. New owner seems to speak very little English, she could not tell which cake was which and  she seems to try to save on staff and thus patrons must wait in long line to be served by her alone at the counter. Once you decide on your order, she then runs to the ONLY cash register on the other side of the cafe to cash the money you provide. This register is shared by the barista as well, so if he is using it, you have to wait extra time. Unprofessional and annoying. Last time I was there, I heard few customers complaining and for a good reason. Its a shame, as the place offers so much and yet their customer service need a serious update.

It is great to have a cafe in Avondale and Salvation Kitchen is a good one at that. The food is outstanding - the best thing about the cafe. The coffee needs a little work - especially the Mocha's. I'm not convinced about the paper plates and plastic knives and forks but I guess it adds something different. The staff are very friendly, enthusiastic and helpful.

I like how easy it is to pull up and loses here. It’s not the most beautiful scenery - but then what can one expect being located in Avondale township. However their food, coffee, and service was nice enough which is important too.

Boasting a counter overflowing with amazing-looking, and tasting, food, as well as excellent, strong coffee, Salvation Kitchen has brought Avondale out of the dark ages as far as the cafe scene goes. Love how you can pull up right out in front (it's an old gas station), and they have some cool retro toys for the kids to mess round with - both of those things make it all easier when you have littlies tagging along. Great place to gather your senses post-the madness of Avondale Markets on a Sunday morn, but also well worth a drive to from the other side of the city - the baked goods, sandwiches and pies here are truly top notch.

Another great find.. the "SALVATION KITCHEN".. what a surprise. I use to work here over 45 years ago when it was "Morrisons Service Station". Certainly love this incarnation. Great coffee, Great food (if you are dieting forget it) that I suspect is all made on the premises...and a great laid back attitude from the friendly Staff. The eclectic decor is pretty interesting as well. No need to go to Grey Lynn or Ponsonby now.

It's not always good to judge a book by its cover, but when you visit Salvation Kitchen, you can tell the food is going to be good even before you try it, because the signs are all there: brightly coloured, French-style industrial metal chairs, tattered old Vogues and other magazines from the 70s and 80s on display, and a motley assortment of retro curios and graphics proudly on display. Salvation Kitchen is a welcome addition to the Avondale shops, and hopefully will the the first of more nice cafes in the area.

Nice atmosphere for a meet up. Grab a coffee, or have some premade sammies or salad. Open Sunday morning, a great feature in Avondale where not much besides the big Market goes on.
