Satay Kajang is one of the go-to dinner spots in Wellington that can handle large bookings of party revellers looking for a feed before dancing it all off in town.
Their traditional and delicious Malaysian menu includes all the favourites such as Mee Goreng, Roti Chennai, Nasi Goreng and Bami Goreng. Don't worry about leaving hungry after your meal either. The portions are plentiful and often best placed in the middle of the table for mass sharing.

You can't go past Satay Kajang for cheap eats, even in a city full of them. $11 will get you the best mee goreng in Wellington, but the pad thai and nasi lemak are solid choices too. The banana roti – an unlikely but delicious combination of warm banana, bread and whipped cream – is a must-try. It's also BYO licensed with quick and courteous service, and as such a popular spot for big groups of students on Friday and Saturday nights.
Satay Kajang is a great spot for a cheap, delicious Malaysian meal before a night on the town. The mains are enormous and mostly around the $12 to $17 mark, while the staff are friendly, competent and unflinching in the face of bookings of 20+. A word to the wise: while it’s not as popular with university students as Oriental Kingdom on Left Bank, it does attract big groups of boozy first-years on Friday and Saturday nights.
