Hands down my favourite place for indian food. They have an awesome selection though it can be daunting at times. My favourite things about Satya is that they really use an incredible blend of spices in their curries. Butter chicken is never as good from anywhere else, you can taste cardamon in theirs! Their mango lassi is basically a dessert and needs to be eaten with a spoon. They have authentic dishes and don't just pander to the pakeha crowd. You know you're at an authentic indian restaurant when indians eat there too! Their dahi puri is delicious. A totally random combination of crunchy cracker-y base, mashed potato (?), tamarind sauce is just addictive. It's listed as must try on their menu and they're right. Also the absolutely best thing about Satya is that they serve paratha. It's a flakey pancake shaped bread which you tear up and use for dipping in curries. So delicious.

Super :)

Satya is a gem! Sometimes it looks a little ghost-town-esque from the outside but even if you are dining alone, what it lacks in atmosphere is more than made up for in taste! The fare is traditional Southern Indian cuisine so you can get a decent thali or masala dosa that outstrips anything else in Auckland! Do not miss trying the starter Dahi Puri - pretty hard to describe, very messy to eat, these are good to share so you've still got some room for your main! Satya has good lunch specials too.

I have heard about this place for ages and never managed to get there.  Picking the location was easy - close to work, on the way home - simple. The decor is interesting - colourful and what-you-might-expect.  Never having been to India I can't say if it was particularly 'authentic' but it was comfortable and inviting.

Superb :)

I'm very much a little bit of everything kind of diner, so when I saw a Thali option on the menu I was stoked.  My large silver platter was filled filled with rice, paratha, lamb curry, sambar, rasam, papad, yoghurt & pickle. The food was great, service good and prices were spot on.

Neat :)

I have had many great feasts here. A little more interesting than you average Indian, they often have a few dishes I have not seen elsewhere. BYO if I remember correctly, and I am not sure if they still have it but they used to have a great wine list - Dog Point etc (not one of those ones provided by Lion or DB where there is like the same 3 mainstream producers and hardly anything interesting / good)

Great :)

Satya doesn't really buy into the usual explosion of gold, saris and sequins that feature in many Indian restaurants. Instead, the decor struck me as warm, cosy and reasonably basic - in a good way. I thought the menu was quite cute, too. The little comments throughout, e.g. "Must try!" made me smile. My flatmate and I took up the challenge of Satya's must-try dahi puri for our starter, and we were not disappointed! I'd go back just for this.  We ordered a bottle of wine and it was placed with two empty glasses on our table, after which the waiter trotted off. While our collective four arms are definitely up to the task of pouring our own wine, we thought it a bit strange for the waiter to leave us to our own devices. No matter, it made us giggle. I had the butter chicken ("always the right choice!"). It was pretty good - enough so that I took no notice of what my flatmate ordered and still can't remember. However, the chicken was a little dry and the ratio of chicken to butter sauce was definitely in the sauce's favour. A wee bit of a let down, but I'd still go back for a dahi puri fix. The cost for the lot - a bottle of wine, two entrees and two mains - was $95.80, which I think is pretty reasonable.

Thanks :)

When they say Dahi Puri is a must try, it's for a reason. The combination of flavours and sensations in that one dish alone are enough to have me coming back here regularly, and recommending it to friends. It's a great restaurant to come with a group as it has a lively atmosphere. All of the dishes are freshly prepared and I have never been disappointed with anything I've ordered. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous, and the people working there are always friendly and helpful.

The whole chillies are my fave thing and they have reasonable BYO, which is always a bonus.

This place is amazing! They have the best Southern Indian food around, the menu can be a bit daunting but if you go for the recommended stuff you can’t go wrong.
