With locals, literally screaming their love for the mysteriously named Society & Nook, there is plenty to shout about but also keep to yourself in case this hidden gem becomes too popular.

The tired environs of Exchange Lane might be familiar for those who used to come to town. But not anymore because Society & Nook have taken over the entire lane with a great bistro and en pointe coffee during the day. It transforms at night with incredible cocktail elixirs, made by skilled and amicable bartenders.

Amazing food, amazing people, amazing nutella shakes

There's a booth in the corner that's got my name on it at Society and Nook because this hidden gem is the ultimate place to drink excellent coffee and fire off those morning emails and to-do's. The coffee here is awesome - so strong and so smooth - and there's free Wi-Fi. Plus, if it's later in the day I can sneak in a cheeky cocktail while I finish up. Awesome spot and well worth making it a regular visit whenever you are in Auckland's CBD.

Wow! This multi-functional space bang smack in the centre of town is the hot new kid on the Auckland block and rightly so. Society & Nook is a clever concept developed by a group of passionate Aucklanders to transform Exchange Lane off Queen Street into a wonderful community space to eat and drink, where city dwellers and workers can gather at any time of the day or night. I love the hole-in-the-wall that serves coffee and pastries from 7am equally as much as the deliciously quirky cocktail bar. But the thing I love most is their lunch menu. A friend and I enjoyed a really lovely Friday afternoon meal - the flavours were out of this world with the Southern Fried Chicken being a stand-out (and naughty!) treat while the salads were Captain Incredible! Tip: The chef Tristen Wan comes by way of Miss Clawdy and his food is delish!
