Yummy ice cream selection and I love that they do ice cream sandwiches topped with candy floss and Nerds lollies! Although it would be better if they were soft cookies, The Dairy is still a great place to go when you're craving something sweet :) I saw on Instagram they are now doing doughnut ice cream sandwiches which is on my to-try list.
Yet another dangerously good business has hit Ponsonby Central of late in the form of The Dairy. It is a fromagerie, cafe, ice cream parlour and just general purveyor of all manner of yumminess, and they welcome tasters so get a big tick from me. They have an incredible selection of sheep and goat cheese too for those that shun your average cow’s milk variety, and the staff are friendly, fun and incredibly informed. Stop by for a coffee and leave with cheese, a rotisserie chicken and craft beer to wash it all down - and why not?
The first thing you will notice at The Dairy is the counter full of huge slabs of cheese and the next is the friendly counter person offering you a taste of one of the delicious rounds. I immediately bought a very tasty aged goats cheese and sat down to a delicious lunch of polenta coated goats cheese with grilled eggplant, capsicum and salad leaves on a walnut bread - a light, tasty and very satisfying lunch. While I was waiting a plate of Poutine - a hearty plate of golden fries, slathered in rich home-made gravy and topped with squeaky cheese curds went past that I will most definitely be back to try. They also sell rotisserie chickens with enticing sides such as polenta coated, deep fried gherkins and root vegetable crisps. Also on offer is Kapiti icecream in traditional scooped form but also available in nostalgic treats such as icecream sandwiches and spiders.
