Historical Village, Shopping

Buildings need people to keep them alive and I find it a bit hard to think these beautiful old pieces of history were moved here from their original sites, where they were once an integral part of the fabric of Tauranga. The village is now a centre for the community and really comes into its own when an event is scheduled, especially the Easter Jazz festival. There's something humming away nearly every weekend and a regular craft market on several times a month and when it's all on it's well-worth a visit.

I have some great childhood memories exploring the historic village. While they don't have people dressed up and working in the shops and blacksmith any more, it's still an interesting place to have a look around. Located down the bottom of 17th Ave, the village features a collection of original and replica buildings from the Tauranga of yesteryear.

This is one of the places we recommend visitors to Tauranga check out because it is so unique. For Carla, it has a particularly special place in her heart because of its links to her whanau and ancestry, plus it’s also where the dance instructor has her offices and studio. We love the fact that it’s like stepping back in time and reckon visitors will too!
