Not just a great place for drinks, they also do sensational sweet treats. They’ve got the classics like sticky date pudding as well as mini churros and strawberry pistachio tarts. If you’re struggling to choose, don’t fret, they’ve got you covered! Their tasting plates come with an array of adorable morsels!
This is an awesome place for a girly catch up. On Wednesdays they do 2 for 1 cocktails and on Thursdays, 2 for 1 desserts! Cocktails and desserts, two of my favourite things! And the Library has a really good vibe, with lots of old books strewn about, you’re sure to have some great convos. The lighting is flattering too!
I like reading, but sadly the public library closes early on a Saturday night and they frown upon you drinking in there. Luckily Library bar encourages both reading and drinking (in my case non-alcoholic). The great waitstaff are happy to recommend a drink to suit your mood and a book to go with it.
One of the most chic bars in the city. Inauspiciously located above BK on Courtenay Place, the Library is a hive of low-fi, urban decadence that Wellington does best. Lavishly decorated with, believe it or not, books from head to toe, the Library is a moody, solemn bar in the week, before thankfully shedding some of its super-serious persona on the weekend. Imaginative cocktails and 2 for 1 desserts on Tuesdays should keep you coming back for more.
Go for cocktails with friends or a quiet cup of tea. With a noisy main room (a jazz band was playing when I left) and plenty of small hideaways to tuck yourself into, The Library suits multiple moods. My significant other and I shared desserts in a quiet alcove (which we shared with a bathtub!) The portions are small but the taste is big, and with a great two-for-one deal on Tuesday nights, worth it. Try the warm chocolate fondant or the earl grey creme brulee. The wait staff bumbled a bit, and the decor tries slightly too hard to make you feel cosy, but on a cold winter night any small nitpicks can be quickly brushed aside with a toasty hot chocolate.
This place is so cool. Fitted out like a library its covered wall-to wall in books, which you can take down and read while you’re eating and drinking. Primarily a cocktail bar, they’ve become well known for their small but delicious dessert menu. Everything here is a little bit special – from earl grey tea crème Brule, to white chocolate and Grand Marnier parfait. Ask the staff nicely and they’ll also match a cocktail to your dessert.
