The Lost Spring has become one of my favourite places in New Zealand after my visit last weekend. It's not your typical Kiwi destination - while the hot thermal spring water and tropical plants are natural, the surroundings most definitely aren't. The rock pools and surroundings are hand-sculpted from concrete and include lighting, speakers, gemstones, crystals and metals pressed into the paths and caves. I felt like I'd walked onto a movie set - especially when I drank a pina colada in the pool to the strains of 'Everything is Ka Pai'. Amazingly, owner Alan has created the entire place himself, from a hunch he had 30 yeas ago that there was thermal water beneath his camp ground, and a vision for what he could create. It's an extraordinary place and a work of enormous, almost incomprehensible creativity and commitment. It is over-the-top and wonderful, and I challenge anyone to be in a bad mood in this place. The restaurant and spa are both excellent, too!
Who doesn’t love hot pools? The Lost Spring in Whitianga, is not only a beautifully built thermal resort, but also a luxury day spa. Perfect for a day when you can’t seem to get warm and your body is all tense. If you’re feeling indulgent, restore your body with a relaxing massage or just spend a few hours soaking up the natural warmth.
