These guys are a great buffet style dining option - especially come the cold winter months of Taupo. Part of the Suncourt Hotel establishment, I love their hearty winter stews, roast veggies, and soups. It's a Taupo family favourite too - and is super kid-friendly. Definitely worth a stop if you're after easy, no-fuss, good, honest food.

Yummy food and bar plus great place for wedding reception, or any conference

The Mousetrap makes a tops tomato soup with some yummy toasted garlic bread. I haven't had their other homemade soups, so I can't really compare what's best, but their tomato soup has the goods 0 a good balance between sweet and being too tomatoey bitter, and just the right amount of creaminess.

I love that The Mousetrap has a toasty fireplace especially for Winter. One of the best winter meals I've had there was their lamb shanks - so tender the meat just fell off the bone. So much flavour in one dish too - if I had a bigger belly, I would have ordered seconds!

If you’re feeling extra indulgent, head over to The Mousetrap for their white forest gateau. To break it down, it’s a Vanilla Sponge, with layers upon layers of vanilla mousse and berries, and then all wrapped up i white chocolate. Not the best if you’re on a diet, but great for an extra special treat. Pair it up with an espresso coffee or liqueurs.

There’s nothing like good ol’ bangers and mash - if you don’t feel like slashing out on a fancy meal but want to be satisfied at the same time, try this simple combination. Smooth vegetable mash and yummy gravy, tops off a very satisfying meal. Defintely top on my list of best comfort foods.

While the Mousetrap is famous for the dinner buffets over the weekend, it's important not to forget about their brunch buffets too! Pick and choose from the array of cooked selection, homemade muesli and of course a few cheeky pastries too. Finish your morning with the locally roasted Volcanic coffee to perk you up.
