For anyone venturing through Whangarei with a bit of an appetite for fine food, wine, live music and craft beers. Bring yourself in to The Old Stone Butter Factory, they are host to many events throughout the week, including cool jam nights, poetry readings, live gigs and burlesque shows. During the day they serve a perfect lunch menu and pretty epic coffee too. It's quirky, stylish and one of my favorite places to go to in Whangarei.

What an incredible spot! I really dig this place and its eclectic crowds with equally brilliant events to match. The other night they had this open mic gig called Gong. Which allowed anyone and everyone to share a piece of whatever they liked be it sing, play an instrument or just dance, but as soon as the gong was struck your time was up! I'm looking forward to their famous Burlesque night hosted by the wonderful Northern Dolls!

I would say this is the coolest haunt in Whangarei. It’s frequented by an eclectic, alternative lot and they have kooky events to match! From burlesque nights to open mic poetry and ‘gong night’ where people can stand up and do anything. Get amongst the city’s grooviest gang - you’ll love it!

You'll love this place as soon as you step into the aimless corridor and wander down the dungeon-like steps. Butters as it's affectionately called by locals always has some kind of gig, performance, event, dress up, show on and for that reason it becomes one of the few hubs of activity in winter. They do great pizza, smooth coffee and have an impressive range of boozey drinks to keep you there long after you've finished dinner.

You’ll be paralysed by choice when you enter this hoppy haven. The Old Stone Butter Factory has a massive range of craft brews - Tuatara, Leigh Sawmill, Three Boys, Hawkes Bay Independant Brewery and Harringtons are just to name a few. They start from a standard $7 and range up to a valuable $14 pint of nectar.

I love the people at the Old Stone Butter Factory - from the staff to the regular patrons and performers this place is filled to the brim with characters. It's probably got something to do with the unusual and creative acts that grace this tavern's evenings. I love going to Dr Sketchy which is a monthly drink and draw session where you get to sip a pint and perfect your sketches of a model.

There is ALWAYS something interesting going on at "Butters". There are always interesting people to talk to, bands/local musicians to discover, events to stimulate the mind & the conversation. The place has the most gorgeous bohemian decor, the music is loud but never too loud for good conversation, the hookahs are novel & fun, and the seats are comfy. And the most delicious pizzas you ever tasted are half price on Tuesday - what's not to love!!!

No matter what time or day you go in, you always get friendly, awesome service. The vibe in this bar is so great and the selection of beer and wine is beautiful.
