The drive from central Auckland to The Refreshment Room in Titirangi takes about thirty minutes, a much quicker way to experience rustic Italian food than hopping on a plane to Rome! Located on the aptly-named Scenic Drive, The Refreshment Room provides hearty and delicious Italian fare created almost entirely from scratch, incorporating local and organic ingredients, and from their own vegetable garden. Taste the difference while taking in beautiful views over the Waitakere Ranges.
For quality, considered and truly delicious Italian cooking The Refreshment Room is perfect. It is about 30 minutes from central Auckland so nice to go for a weekend lunch. Although they do a good value Love Our Locals dinner on Thursday for $30 a head. The last Sunday of each month from 5.30 to 8.30pm Sunday Session music is on. Beautiful views through back to the city. Excellent place to take visitors to Auckland, combined with a trip to Piha.
This is one of our favourite locals, and suits casual or special occasions just as well. Set in a reclaimed vineyard, much of the produce is grown on-site, and the wine list includes a decent range of organic options. With the iconic ranges all around you, it's a particularly great place to take overseas visitors or friends who've just returned to NZ after an overseas trip. With brunch and dinner options to match the grandeur of the scenery, you just can't go wrong. If you are looking for somewhere to take vegetarian friends, then I'd particularly recommend it, as their options are always more than an afterthought. The risotto and salad options are particularly innovative; at the other end of the scale, their flagship scotch fillet with broken potatoes, herb butter and rocket would be my first choice steak meal in the entire city. Other points of difference include their excellent handmade chickpea and mozarella chips, along with impressive dessert selections like the bitter chocolate and honey truffles and selected home made ice cream.
