This 85 km, grade 3 track is so unique in that keen mountain bikers will go through acres and acres of ancestral Maori lands in the heart of the Pureora Forest Part. Best done in winter, it’s not for the faint-hearted or the unfit. Thee’s no cellphone coverage so make sure you have an emergency pack - but it’s definitely worth it, hands down. This is a great adveture trip idea for keen and experienced mountain bikers.

Scenery, history and great riding!! The swing bridges are a real treat.

Amazing scenery and history. The massive swing bridges are incredible; you are riding in the treetops. The ride from Piropiro campgrounds to Ongarue township has a swingbridge, challenging up hill section climbing into the treetops and then a wonderful downhill slope that means peddling is optional!! Fantastic day out....remember to take lunch, snacks and plenty of fluids.

These guys run a few different bike tours based in the Pureora Forest, you can choose day rides and up to 85km ride or the full Timber Trail. Riding over suspended bridges would be a pretty crazy experience for anyone - they can sort out shuttles and accommodation if you're doing the longer ones!
