Working across the road from the Elliot Street Stables is a definite bonus, especially when you have a boss that likes crepés as much as I do. Many a work breakfast meeting has been held at Torchon, the service is fantastic, the food is to die for and the coffee and cider are delicious. However, I think the most important thing to note is that the staff are all French and they don't laugh at you when you attempt to pronounce things in French. I first started coming here a year ago when I fell madly in love with one of the waiters - he has since gone back to France but the crepés here are too good to not have, and so, I put on a brave face, sit down and order from a wide range of crepés and galettes to ease the pain. The rubharb and cream crepe is especially good and the old fave , lemon and sugar is good to....oh, the list goes on. The French cider is divine and definitely worth a try.. and don't get me started on the wines. Go there. It's a must.
A French restaurant with French waiters is instantly more appealing. Torchon is full of charm and perfectly situated inside Elliot Stables. A small menu but full of the classics. Have tried both savoury and sweet crepes and not sure I could pick a winner of the two they were both so good. They're not skimpy on the fillings either which is a bonus. Bonus points: they have crème brulee on the menu which is my favourite.
