This rugged Kiwi gem is just north of Napier next to a DOC wildlife reserve and across a small causeway. The camping ground borders on two beautiful lakes - the Tutira and the Waikopiro. So when you roll out of your tent at dawn you'll be greeted by two pristine lakes reflecting a mirror image of the surrounding grassy hills and the brilliant amber shades of an NZ sunrise.

Activity wise - there's lots to do with fishing, swimming, heaps of walking tracks, picnic tables on the lake as well as shelters, just in case it decides to bucket down all of a sudden. TIP: head up to the "great view track" (what a creative name) to look out over the entire park and take in the epic views.

With a few years of tree planting this beautiful spot and lake is a picturesque camp-site and day park for travellers. Every year one-year-old trout are released into the waters and it yields good fishing. It’s not always safe for swimming as inviting as it may be on a hot day, but the walks are beautiful and the views from the top of the hill and out to the coast worthwhile.

This regional country park and Department of Conservation wildlife reserve is anchored around two small lakes and adjacent to the Guthrie Smith Trust arboretum. Once part of an extensive farm it has a variety of exotic and native plantings thanks to Forest & Bird, Rotary and schools. It’s a sheltered peaceful spot for trout fishing, kayaking and picnicking with basic camping facilities. Walks vary from flat to steep, the most strenuous of which is the Great View Walk with awesome views back toward the coast and Napier. The area was once abundant with food and was home to six Maori Pa sites.
