I’m a bit of a geek in that I LOVE museums. Absolutely, 100% love them. And the Waikato Museum does not disappoint. Even better it’s free, although a small koha/donation is well looked upon :) The Waikato Museum is also a sweet spot to take kids on a rainy day - they have a bunch of interactive displays and exhibitions to get these young minds thinking.

Winter is the time to get cultured and learn about the amazing country we live in. The Waikato Museum is just the place to start. They have some awesome exhibitions lined up this winter too including ‘E Ngaa Uri Whakatupu’ - an amazing display of traditional Maori kaakahu (cloaks) and weaving from five generations of one family. I also love their World War 1 exhibition at the moment (on till November). ‘For us they Fall’ is a really poignant display telling the stories of our Waikato people during WW1. Definitely worth a visit. Plus, entry to the Waikato Museum is free. (donations/koha are welcome though).

Education can be fun. And the Waikato Museum in Hamilton proves so. On a recent trip there with my partner I took special note of the really wide variety of hands on science-themed learning displays for kids to interact with, such as the Vampire Slayer display!

Love hiding amongst the artwork forgetting about the world outside. Even if it's just during my lunch break.

Rainy day? Head to the Museum. There’s plenty of interesting information, lots of exhibits aimed at kids and entry is by koha. During the holidays check out the events page- they often have arts, history and science workshops for the little ones .

Home of the impressive and very majestic aka 'Te Winika' which you have to check out. Good place to take the kids with fun hands-on science galleries for them and the best part is it's free.
