Fab playground, feed the ducks, ice b-block @ Picnic café, and coffee for the minders!

Flowers, trees, hills! Oscar Wilde said that Americans were angry because their buildings are so ugly. We make the world ugly by implanting our harsh geometries in the unbeatable, innate beauty of nature. We should treasure it! Not destroy it!

Sometimes you just need to sing. However, your flatmates often don’t like you belting out Bohemian Rhapsody while they’re trying to finish their really important cross stitch. If you’re in the same situation then head on up to the "Botans". The bowl is the perfect place to practice your opera singing… or just sit back and enjoy the fresh air.

What’s not to love about the botanical gardens on a sunny day? Fresh air, beautiful flowers and a lovely walk. You can pack a picnic and eat it in the garden, or if you’ve got out of towners, take them up on the cable car. You can also hire out some of their facilities for functions and events which is pretty cool too.

So many spots to choose from! Over summer, a night of food and drink on the lawn at the Sound Shell while listening to a live show is divine, while the hill by the playground and The Dell are also awesome spots for eating, drinking and sunbathing!

Whether or not you are a fan of flowers, nothing beats a sunny afternoon stroll through the botanical gardens. It’s the perfect place to take the kids for a picnic, or even treat that special someone for a romantic date.

Great place to take children to adventure and explore

A lovely place for an afternoon picnic, the Botanic Garden between Thorndon and Kelburn are an easy walk from central Wellington. Visit the duck pond, or hike up to the cable car for picturesque views of Wellington Harbor. The gardens are beautiful in spring and summer, and are free year round.

Or a walking date

I can't believe no one has loved this place yet. I love walking around (and fooling around) with friends and family.
