Whakapapa is another haven for kids over the winter school holidays. Happy Valley is a great slope to learn to ski or snowboard, and combined with some super patient instructors available for lessons, it’s a winner. Plus, there’s a great cafe there too that makes some fab fluffies and hot chocs to keep kids warm (and their energy levels up).

I live the great scenery and the big slopes you can ski and snowboard down. There are many a awesome slopes in the ski field. I also like the nice soft snow and I especially like it when there is nice warm weather which there actually is most of the time. Snowboarding is my most favourite thing to do and this is definitely my most favourite place in New Zealand by far.

This is New Zealand's largest ski area and is good for inexperienced boarders like me and much more advanced riders as well. I love that the gentle slopes are well away from where more experienced snow bunnies go because I crash often! The mountain also has great ski hire facilities and fantastic instructors. If you don't go to the snow often, it's well worth the money to have an hour-long refresher lesson on your first day so you can hit it as hard as possible on the second one.
