Tastebud Tour Of Asia
- 16Hansan Vietnamese Restaurant - CityAuckland CentralHansan has me hooked- delicious food with more than decent portions, it’s become my go-to for a lunch out. Though I always swear to try something new, I love my order of shredded pork rolls and the pan friend steak with lemongrass on rice far too much to have branched out thus far!
- 264Canton CafeKingslandWhenever my family and I decide to go out we always hmmm and ummm but deep down we know we’re going to end up at Canton. It’s always buzzing with families and friends for a reason- it’s the best Chinese food in Auckland. We always make an effort to order different dishes so we don’t miss any deliciousness, but the ma po tofu and bak choy in oyster sauce make their way into our meal every time.
- 35Came here for yum char with a large group last year and have been thinking about it since. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere with all its decor and spaciousness, and the food was amazing. We ate more than I care to admit but didn’t even make a dent in the menu. I really recommend not letting the deep fried squid and pan friend dumplings roll by. (And the ice-cream balls too!)
- 446Barilla DumplingsBalmoralWhenever I go to Barilla Dumplings I find myself wondering "how many dumplings is the human body capable of eating at once?" And in order to carry out this continuing , completely scientific experiment, I've made myself a regular for their amazing steamed pork and cabbage dumplings.
- 515No.1 Pancake TakeawayAuckland CentralThis hole in the wall is the perfect comfort food for rainy days spent craving something hot, something salty and something sweet. While everything is super good, the chicken & cheese has to be my favourite.

Bringing all the boys to the yard: best milkshakes.
- 110Grill & ShakesKingslandThe three words every girl wants to hear- Ferrero Rocher milkshake. This would’ve been a really difficult decision if Fererro Rochers weren’t my absolute favourite chocolate, ice-cream flavour and lifestyle because this place has a seriously extensive milkshake menu. With all of them sounding amazing (figs, tim tams, and turkish delight to name a few), I think I’ll just have to close my eyes and point at the list next time.
- 217Al's DeliAuckland CentralAl’s Deli is a sweet sweets heaven for me and that’s not even all the diner serves. But with their apple pie fries served with amazing caramel sauce and the rich peanut butter & chocolate milkshake, I don’t think I can be shamed for skipping straight ahead to the dessert.
- 313Lick Ice Cream & SweetshopBlockhouse BayIt’s a good thing they offer loyalty cards because this place is seriously addictive. On top of the usual and not-so-usual ice cream flavours, like pineapple lump and jaffa, their milkshakes and “real” hot chocolates are amazing (peanut butter and oreo, anyone?). While you’re waiting for the careful construction of your order, the array of American candies that line the walls are very hard to resist browsing.

Best Indian food
- 11ShivaniMt RoskillThis place has the best dosas in Auckland. Tried the massala dosa, paneer dosa, and rava masala all in one day, and even between four foodies we could barely finish portions (though that didn't stop us from demolishing them and ordering mango lassis too.) The staff were especially friendly and kept the chutneys coming. Perfect place for a family lunch.
- 24Bikanervala Mt RoskillMount RoskillLove this place for its super fast, super hot food. It’s perfect to beat the sudden mango lassi and masala dosa cravings, but I have to say the best thing is having their samosas and chai on a rainy day!
- 31Shor BazaarMt RoskillStill have to try their dine-in menu, but their takeaway is seriously the best Indian takeaway I’ve had. Especially love their tandoori chicken- served with green chutney and just the right amount of spice, it’s now my family’s go-to snack.
- 440Paradise Indian FoodSandringhamParadise takeaways is an absolute life saver for lazy days when nobody at home can be bothered to cook. So much so that It’s become an inside joke with family over that half the food we feed them is actually from Paradise- because nobody can tell when it tastes just like home cooking! Their butter chicken is my absolute favourite.

Summer lovin'
- 13Narrow Neck BeachDevonportSpent a lovely, lazy day at Narrow Neck beach - found a shaded spot just above the sand for a family picnic, and after all the swimming was done (and food demolished!), we moved to the park across the road to bring out the soccer ball. It's a safe beach with a great atmosphere.
- 230Silo ParkAuckland CentralLove this place, especially the weekend summer markets- Saturday/Sunday, 12pm-6pm. Digging through the piles of vintage clothing, accessories, and downright oddities is both fun and rewarding- there's everything from cheap art prints to sunglasses. The food stalls right next door are also irresistible and there are often free Swing dancing lessons in front of them, it's just all very cute.
- 38Aotea SquareAuckland CentralLoving the summer vibe, lounging in the sun on the giant pillows and chairs is a no-fuss and no-pay way to catch up with friends.
- 43Old Cement WorksWarkworthA seriously good way to spend a sweltering day - sun, swimming and no sand to cover all your belongings till next Winter. Exploring the (apparently) haunted ruins alongside the waterhole is another adventure in itself.

Sweet tooth
- 154MilseAuckland CentralMy absolute favourite place for sweet treats, Milse juxtaposes its hole-in-the-wall size with mouthwatering and gorgeously presented desserts. From the macarons to miniature gautex selection, everything looks almost too good to touch, but several insta-worthy photos later you’re more than ready to dig in, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is lovely too; watching the chef’s at work through their viewing window feels like an extra treat.
- 23MellowAuckland CentralMellow dessert café offers the perfect place to meet with friends and share a plate -or three-. From their cabinet selection of that day’s fresh baking to shaved ice served with fruit and froyo, there’s something that appeals to everyone with a sweet tooth and a mindset to try new treats. If green tea crepes and taro-shaved ice isn’t your cup of tea, the coffee and tea menu is really good too- their iced white chocolates are my new favourite things.
- 323Bluebells CakeryHillsboroughBluebells is a charming little place full of baking made with lots of love. Though tiny, their café has no shortage of sweets, and it always takes me forever to decide between their equally appealing cupcakes or slices or cakes, (and then between lemon, or red velvet, or salted caramel.) While heaps of cafes offer the same flavours, none have mastered the cozy appeal of Bluebells, everything reminds you a bit of home, of sugar, spice, and everything nice.
- 413Lick Ice Cream & SweetshopBlockhouse BayIt’s a good thing they offer loyalty cards because this place is seriously addictive.
- 53Bluebells CakeryEden TerraceI loved their Hillsborough outlet, and somehow love this one even more. A much more spacious shop, there's plenty of room to sit- a good thing for them and not so good thing for me, because I ended up ordering another cupcake after the first! The banana and salted caramel one was delicious, with the perfect ratio of icing to cupcake, topped off prettily with banana chips and flowers, and the lemon curd cupcake was just as good, a little tangy and sticky, just the way lemon cake should be.
