Whether you take a walk along the beach, climb up on to the reef or visit the lighthouse, the views are amazing. Fur seals can be sometimes seen, sunning themselves on the rocks beneath the lighthouse. Fur seals can bite, so don’t get too close and if it is really windy standing on the reef, maybe not the best place to be.

Mataikona Rocks are a 15 minute drive away from Castlepoint. The rocks can only been seen and walked on at low tide. The rock formations are the result of the constant pounding and compression from the ocean and the movement and colliding of tectonic plates. They are quite a sight to see.

The limestone chasm is amazing, it makes you feel very small as you walk through it. You do however have to watch where you walk as some of the smaller stones can be slippery and in some places the water is deeper than in other parts. Good footwear is a must. Another hidden gem that a lot of people don’t know about.
