What to do on a rainy day
- 112Light House CubaWellington CentralThe laid-back but intimate atmosphere at Light House means your movie watching experience is more like snuggling up in your lounge with friends to watch a good movie. And they only have good movies, none of this bad movie stuff! The staff are ultra cool too and they have a good selection of snack foods to munch on while you enjoy the flicks. It really is a beacon of cinematic enjoyment.
- 29MeowTe AroTucked away in a back alley, this unassuming cafe is a favourite spot to camp out on a rainy day and drink a pot of tea and read the paper. It dark and warm and the atmosphere always has a little buzz which makes it easier to concentrate on what you’re doing. Come a sunny day it’s good to pop outside too and enjoy the sun.
- 36Regal Chinese RestaurantTe AroThere is nothing better to do on a rainy day than eat yum cha. Regal is one of the best yum cha venues and on a rainy day you can sit by the steamy window and watch as the drizzle washes down Courtenay Place. With a wide selection of delciousness — from pan fried pork dumplings and custard buns — to the unusual — tripe and chicken feet — you will leave full as a bull.
- 440There is something magical about the Southern Cross. It’s warm couches and open fires make it perfect for a rainy day. They’ve done a really good job of building a great staff culture where everyone is friendly and helpful. I love sitting outside in the garden bar when the weather is not so rainy with a refreshing soda pop. Brilliant!
- 514Wellington Central LibraryWellington CentralReading an actual book is such a novelty these days so getting into a building devoted to housing books is a great adventure for a rainy day. Hide away down one of the aisles and immerse yourself in anything from politics to pottery: it’s brilliant.
