Where to buy gourmet goods
- 133The cheeses! The fresh vegetable and fruit selection! The pastas! The dips! The seafood! The meats! The chocolate! The Bakery! There are a lot of things at Moore Wilsons that make me want to yell "The insert specific word here!" at the top of my lungs.
- 22Best sugar free chocolate bars ever! No seriously, the best sugar free chocolate bars ever. And if the sugar free chocolate is that good, just think about how good the sugary chocolate is?! You can put together a pretty incredible chocolate hamper here.
- 313So there is this alternative supermarket called Commonsense Organics, and they have Hemp Milk, and Almond Milk, and Oat Milk!!! So if you’re looking for a non dairy milk substitute that isn’t soy, you just died and went to heaven! Then you get to the cereal and museli section, and it’s all so good you get kinda emotionally overwhelmed - and then you come past the meat alternatives, and if you’re vegetarian it’s like, damn, I have no money to pay my rent now.
- 414City MarketTe AroThe first time I headed past City Market on a Sunday I nearly died and went to heaven, actually, maybe I did. Anyway, I spent around $40 on breakfast, which is really too much to spend on Breakfast, but I just didn’t care - so much deliciousness, so little time.
- 58Zany ZeusMoeraUpsettingly good dairy products lurk here. I want to draw an old medieval map, and as opposed to "Here be Dragons", I want to put "Here be Zany Zeus Feta". I’d have to include Cafe Polo and NIkau on the map as well. Local cafes really need to jump onto this Wondrous product range. Sublime.

What to do on a rainy day
- 124Six Barrel Soda FactoryTe AroOn a rainy day, what better to do than watch the rain fall while drinking a cup of bottomless black coffee. Then every now and then, leaf through some old copies of National Geographic and wonder at the world that was.
- 212Light House CubaWellington CentralQuality cinema is yet another rainy day standard, and Light House Cuba’s opulent-but-affordable surrounds make it the perfect spot for such an activity.
- 315Arty Bee's BooksWellington CentralSomething about the rain always makes me want to read, and when you’re reading, there is nothing like cracking into a book you’ve never explored before. Arty Bee’s has one of the best selections in the city. You could easily daydream through a rainy hour or two browsing the books there.
- 43RPM - Rough Peel MusicTe AroThe search for music - music you’ve heard and always wanted to hear again - or music you’ve never heard and will want to hear one thousand times over - is one of the great rainy day pursuits. RPM is that store, with that catalogue. Get amongst it.
- 536Midnight EspressoWellington CentralUnder cold/wet weather, cakes and biscuits are a preferred treat. Midnight usually has an interesting array, plus you know you can bring your vegan friend along and they’ll be able to pig out on something as well.

Best Newtown dining spots
- 128MontereyNewtownWhether you’re headed in for a burger and fries for dinner, or weekend brunch, Monterey is the premier dining spot in Newtown. While the food is spectacular, so is the coffee and drinks menu. Always a good time.
- 211BebemosNewtownBebemos is the most Melbournesque (think Brunswick Street/Smith Street) style eatery I’ve come across in Wellington. The menu is good, and their outdoor beer garden somewhat essential in summer. This is an easy spot to take it easy at.
- 38Viva Mexico NewtownNewtownOutdoor taco trucks, blaring Latin American music, amazing Mexican food and lovely staff. On a warm evening, Viva Mexcio Newtown is a must.
- 46Fish FinsNewtownMore takeways than eat-in, Fish Fins is the essential Newtown fish and chip shop. Those lemon pepper fish fillets and chunky fries are delicious. Add in some salad and you’re away. Eat your food in a park somewhere nearby, enjoy the outdoors.
- 513Pranah Vegetarian CafeNewtownPranah is another classic Newtown spot. They have one of the better vegetarian menus around. Both the counterfood and menu items are delicious.
