- 11Frontier Cafe & BarHaastWhat better way to spend time than at Frontier? I love their roaring fire, outdoor deck and great coffee. It’s also a fabulous family friendly restaurant with a lovely lunch and dinner menu, including some excellent kids meals. My fave meal is the Kids Combo featuring one main choice served with one small non alcoholic beverage & vanilla ice cream with strawberry, chocolate or caramel sauce to finish.
- 22Jackson's Historic TavernGreymouthJackson’s is a classic West Coast Tavern and perfect for the young ones! The kids can chow down on some scrumptious meals like fish bites, samosas, beef nachos and more. A pub with a lot of character, make sure you stop in at Jackson’s - I love it!
- 31Cook Saddle Cafe and SaloonFox GlacierYou’ll love Cook Saddle as much as I do because this is the place where locals and visitors come to mix and mingle. Their B.B.Q Pork Spare Ribs are world famous and their kids menu is just as good. This small but perfectly formed menu features all your favourites including beef burgers.
- 48Stumpers Bar and CafeHokitikaStumpers is always top of my list of places to visit when I’m in Hokitika. A great place for the family, you’ll love their flexible and delicious menu which features the best of the best for kids, including fish and chips and burgers.
- 54Steamers Carvery & BarGreymouthSteamers is a lovely place for the kids and adults. They have a friendly and laid back atmosphere and it’s not a loud or shouty place so you’ll find making conversation with everyone a breeze. The kids menu is worth writing home about too!

- 11Speights Ale HouseInvercargillSpeights Ale House is definitely the pride of the south in Invercargill. This family friendly pub is a great place to hang after the kids’ sports matches. Great food, great staff and great beers for the adults too.
- 24Cobb & Co InvercargillAvenalNew Zealand’s first restaurant and saloon, you’ll no doubt have fond memories of this place. The kids will love the ribs and traffic light drinks, as well as the dedicated kids area.
- 35Ziff's Cafe & BarOtataraThis family friendly restaurant and bar is simply lovely. The meals here are bound to satisfy even the most fussiest of eaters. The menu includes some of my favourites including seafood chowder and chicken salad.
- 44Paddington ArmsWaikiwiPaddington Arms has the best gravy around and the meals are a steal at $20. Kids can take their pick from the epic young people’s menu including Banger and Mash, Fish and Chips and Chicken and Chips. There’s a lot to love about this place!
- 53Lone Star Cafe & Bar InvercargillInvercargillA well established NZ brand, Lone Star is a great place for families. There’s a whole range of meals to choose from, and the kids will be stoked with their options which includes tortilla wraps, burgers and chips.

- 23Fat Harry's Family RestaurantMorningtonA classic kiwi tavern and restaurant, I love Fat Harry’s for it’s family fun atmosphere and delicious kids menu. Let the kids take their pick from mini roasts and Schnitzel to beef burgers and spare ribs.
- 31The Ballarat Trading CompanyQueenstownThe Ballarat Trading Company is a great place to hang with the family. It’s a laidback and relaxed affair and is a fun pub to enjoy dinner. Let the kids try the Classic Fish and Chips or Sandwich of the Day with chips.
- 44The Fork and TapArrowtownI love The Fork and Tap! I have fond memories visiting this pub when I was a teenager and have loved it ever since. It’s a charming and historic restaurant / pub and their kids menu is killer - it features favourites like fish and chips and burgers!
- 54The Last Post is a popular Oamaru haunt for young families, and I particularly love it because it’s also a fun place to have a pint. The stuff are lovely and the kids menu has great and healthy options.

- 16Pomeroy's Old Brewery InnChristchurch CentralThe ultimate Christchurch pub, I love Pom’s for their 31 rotating craft beers on tap and in bottles. Their pub fare is incredibly popular and inspired by the motherland. There is al fresco dining, perfect for the whole family.
- 21Lonestar Bush InnRiccartonThis Johnny Cash-inspired bar / restaurant is a great place for the family. The restaurant is huge an seats 160 people. The wings at Lonestar are epic and becoming world famous and there is a great kids menu including fish and chips, burritos and burgers.
- 33The Brown PubMethvenA classic Kiwi pub, The Brown Pub is a family-friendly haunt. A great place to hang out, drink a few bevvies and try their amazing range of meals including steamed mussels & clams and the mean beef burger.

- 14Caffeine Laboratory HQChristchurch CentralCaffeine Lab does a lot of things well, including fries. Their thick cut chips are hand cut, deep fried and served with amazing dips and sauces. A great place to stop if you’re exploring the city and want a tasty lunch or dinner.
- 22A popular Rangiora restaurant, I love The Blue Rooster for their delicious toasted sandwiches and ridiculously good chips! A great place to stop if you’re in Rangiora for a shopping trip or heading north for the weekend.
- 33Mac's FishTimaruMac’s Fish is a favourite fish and chips shop. Not only are their fish fresh and delicious, but their fries are some of the best. Not too thin and not too thick, their chips are always perfectly cooked.
- 42Wicked Fish 'n' ChipsShirleyWicked is an awesome neighbourhood fish and chips shop. They make great burgers (try the fish one, it’s my favourite!), as well as fantastic spring rolls and hot chips. Not too greasy, you’ll find it hard to exhibit self control when eating these delicious fries.
- 51Casa PublicaChristchurch CentralThis brand new bar and restaurant is awesome. You’ll find this bar at the end of New Regent Street and is quickly become famous for their big Saturday nights. I like Casa Publica because of their hot chips. They are worth going back for week after week!

- 14Atlas Beer CafeQueenstownFor seriously good fries, you can’t beat Atlas Beer Cafe. I love this Queenstown cafe for many reasons, but particularly because their hot chips are unbelievable good. Whilst you’re there, try the beef burger, pizza and local craft beers too!
- 22Pog Mahones Irish Bar QueenstownQueenstownA very cool Irish bar which has great music, delicious Guinness on tap and some o the best chips in town. How does fries, cheese and gravy sound to you?
- 33It’s hard to come by well cooked and tasty kumara chips but Speights Ale House in Wanaka make them just right. Served with sour cream and chilli sauce, these bad boys are incredibly delicious.
- 43AlfrescoAlexandraCafe Alfresco know how to make good chips. Served with fish or fried chicken, their fries are delicious no matter what you eat them with. This place is just great!
- 55Portsider TavernPort ChalmersA great wee tavern, I love Portsider for their outdoor patio, fantastically friendly staff, local wine selection and their hot chips! Cut by hand, their fries are always delicious, especially when served with Kiwi craft beer!
