"This iconic island off Mount Maunganui Main Beach is a popular spot for rock fishing. It takes about 5 minutes to walk from the beach to the blowhole at the end of the island. It's best to follow the locals to help choose a good spot - safe from rouge waves and high seas."

"Set at in a picturesque park 10 minutes drive out of Tauranga is Lake McLaren. This spot offers year-round trout fishing in the lake and nearby Ruahihi Canal. Make sure you have a licence, which can be purchased from nearby Marshall's Animal Park or participating sports shops. Licences expire on September 30 each year. If the trout aren't biting there's also a beautiful glow worm walk to enjoy once the sun goes down."

"This is a great spot in Mount Maunganui to take kids fishing for Spotty or Kahawai. Use a handline or rod, or cast out into the channel - just keep an eye out for the pilot boat guiding big ships into port!"
