There's only two things you need to know about Black Dog Cafe - they do some of the best coffee in the Matakana/Leigh area and are famous for their chunky savoury scrolls. My husband just returned from a boys' weekend away and came back with a gift of love - one of Black Dog Cafe's bacon, cheese and herb-filled savoury scrolls. One bite into the soft, pillowy pastry and filling was enough to transport my tastebuds to foodie heaven. Don't miss stopping here for excellent baked goods and even better coffee if you are ever in the Matakana area.

The Black Dog Cafe has a warm welcome ambience that entices you in from near and far. They do smooth velvety coffee and I love having a sweet treat from their cabinet. They have the best pastries. I also think it’s awesome they’re so pup friendly, you can always count on petting someone’s friendly pooch when you stop off at this local gem.

Best holiday eats. Great service and coffee!

Pretty close!! Lovely staff and good coffee too!

Black Dog cafe has a spot-on location on the main street in Matakana, just a short stroll from where the Saturday markets are held. A good outside area to have coffee in the sun, it's a great relaxed spot. Food is generally good cafe style, and the coffee is good quality.

Delicious coffee, not stingy with the coffee and nicely textured milk. Food selection is enough to keep you happy and the outdoor courtyard is a cool place to chill out and have a drink

Love this place. Very, very good coffee. As an American, I am always skeptical about kiwi hamburgers (where's the beef?!?), but Black Dog's burger was one of the best I've had. Coffee or not, I'd go back there just for the burgers. Nothing flash or fancy about the place, they get the basics right and it feels like a comfortable place to rest your legs when you've been walking around all day. The outdoor area is very relaxing on a sunny day. If you sit by the wall, you can people watch to your heart's content. The outdoor area is also dog friendly if you've got well-behaved dogs who can chill out while you drink and eat.
