When Leighton Dunlop started Espressoholic, he had no idea that he was to create a favourite late-night hangout for countless caffeine junkies - or that the cafe was going to help him find true love.

Sure enough, the cafe became an icon and when Majida Tooma bought the business from him about 10 years ago (he stayed on to manage) he found his future wife. Nowadays, they still serve the same fresh, locally sourced food that made Espressoholic an icon.

Be sure to visit Espressoholic for a nice, hot cuppa or indulge in one of their many cabinet treats on display. Psst, they're licensed too!

Great hot chocolate and wonderful breakfast a perfect start to a Sunday

Great long black every time

Wonderful coffee just the way a long black should be

Great wellington cafe right in the heart of Cuba.

Espressoholic’s got a great selection of cabinet food and a menu that’s both extensive and good value. In terms of ambiance, it’s sexless, which can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s hard to read romance into its harsh lighting, checkered floor and diner-style benches, meaning it’s a great destination for a coffee date you were too polite to decline.

The food is getting a bit pricey, but you can depend on Espressoholic for quality coffee and good food every time you visit.  A funky, friendly place to be.

They have a huge range of cabinet treats even late in to the night. They also have beers if you’re into that and a sassy looking pig that looks after one of the menu boards. A cool place to go, especially for their caramel slice, not for the faint hearted!

Uber-hipster, Espressoholic is certainly one of the places to be seen. Consider yourself Cuba St royalty if you've managed to snare one of their two outdoor-yet-sheltered smoking areas. The iconic coffee served here is complemented well by their awesome array of cabinet food.

The main let down of some of the entries on this list so far is that they very prone to Wellington’s famously erratic weather. Espressoholic’s two smoking areas are both well covered so if are desperate for your gaspers but aren’t strong enough to brave the rain then Espressoholic is the place for you.

Always a chilled vibe and delicious, freshly prepared food - both in the cabinet and to order. Perfect place for a casual brunch with friends, a quick coffee or a late night stop in.
