When Leighton Dunlop started Espressoholic, he had no idea that he was to create a favourite late-night hangout for countless caffeine junkies - or that the cafe was going to help him find true love.
Sure enough, the cafe became an icon and when Majida Tooma bought the business from him about 10 years ago (he stayed on to manage) he found his future wife. Nowadays, they still serve the same fresh, locally sourced food that made Espressoholic an icon.
Be sure to visit Espressoholic for a nice, hot cuppa or indulge in one of their many cabinet treats on display. Psst, they're licensed too!

Espressoholic’s got a great selection of cabinet food and a menu that’s both extensive and good value. In terms of ambiance, it’s sexless, which can be both a blessing and a curse. It’s hard to read romance into its harsh lighting, checkered floor and diner-style benches, meaning it’s a great destination for a coffee date you were too polite to decline.
The main let down of some of the entries on this list so far is that they very prone to Wellington’s famously erratic weather. Espressoholic’s two smoking areas are both well covered so if are desperate for your gaspers but aren’t strong enough to brave the rain then Espressoholic is the place for you.
