Open the door to George and you’ll be charmed by this quaint beach café; from the lush greenery flanked courtyard, to the lovelies serving you from the open kitchen, and some seriously good tunes to boot!

George are passionate about making you great coffee and delivering oh-so fresh food that’ll make you feel good inside. They use organic milk, chicken, bread and organic coconut sugar in their baked goodies.

There’s plenty of room for the kids at the communal table and Rover can hang out the back, too. Try the popular fresh fish taco with coconut slaw and bursts of hand-picked mint.

Ethically grown, organic, wholefood menu, not entirely vegetarian but lots of options and I’m just loving all the fresh salads they serve up.

I seem to be hearing more and more about this cool little beachside cafe at Omanu. It's in a fairly unlikely, but super handy, spot in a block of old school kiwi shops that include a dairy, liquor store and fish 'n chip shop. They make a good coffee and their food is lovingly made using organic milk, chicken and bread. They also use organic coconut sugar in their baking - which certainly helps justify eating a big slice of it. There's a courtyard out the back so you won't miss any rays while you're away from the beach.

This place is everything that is good about the new trend in seasonal eateries. Cafes today tend to embracing fresh, organic, locally-sourced, seasonal produce and meat… and this is exactly what you’ll get at George Cafe. You can taste the freshness and the love in this food. Such a great place.

Definitely one of my favorite spots and a good excuse to check out the other end of the Mount. The menu has a “whole foods theme” to it, but this doesn’t mean they have sacrificed taste. The struggle here is trying to decide if you should order something from the excellent menu or choose from the attractive cabinet selection of cakes and savory options. Plenty of outdoor and indoor seating and a great spot to bring the kids.

This is my favourite caff south of Millers on Cross st near K Rd. Consistently awesome, flavoursome, exciting and evolving. I had a gluten and dairy free chicken salad with a panoply of taste sensations. Chia, nuts, greens, currents, shaved coconut coriander etc… I think one of the best salads I’ve ever had. I love this place. Beaut open space out the back, great staff and music. Cheers George.

"If I head out to Omanu for a surf, I’ll stop in at this cool cafe. The food is fantastic because they use very fresh ingredients - everything in their cabinet looks so good, I could eat it all! But most importantly, the coffee is really, really great. I also love the funky, downmarket vibe with its old-school chairs."

George Cafe was recommended to me by a Tauranga-born local whose parents have called the Mount Maunganui area home for many years. Their acai berry, chocolate granola and blended banana bowl was a healthy way to kick-start my day after a big night out the evening before. When the coffee arrived, it was creamy and nutty in flavour. Get there early to avoid the crowds!
