Himatangi Beach is perfect for watching the setting sun on a summer evening. You can even do it from the comfort of your car if you feel like driving onto the beach.

The main beach in Hamitangi provides all sorts of adventures for those looking to soak up the sunshine. Including, swimming, surfing and whitebaiting for a feed.

Himatangi Beach is only 130km north of Wellington and 40km west of Palmerston North which makes it the ideal getaway destination out of the city.

Pack up the kids, the dog and a picnic and enjoy a spring day at the beach! Take a walk down the beach, build some sandcastles, dip your toes in the water or throw in a line and catch your dinner. It's the perfect way to see in the warmer months after being cooped up inside over winter!

    I've been heading to Himatangi Beach since I was knee high for the Christmas holidays. Our family always packs a chilly bin of snacks and drinks to pass the day away while swimming and playing a bit of beach cricket. It's where I learnt to surf and is hugely popular with the locals from Palmy.
