Pro: atmosphere Con: Products which are neither Italian nor Kiwi but simply superfluous, such as Coca-Cola The atmosphere is super inviting and the taste of coffee and pastry also good. I still didn't leave with an overall positive impression but rather a mix: The pastry was nothing especially Italian, but almost like any other cafe - a French / Kiwi mix (Croissants, Danish, pies). Italian products were the espresso and some Italian soft drinks - but the coffee didn't seem to be fair trade or organic and to be honest in that case I prefer products which weren't shipped once around the world. While I was happy to see organic soy milk and local Phoenix/Charlie's products, the Coca-Cola bottle next to it and some Australian soft drinks blemished that impression again.
Went to Il Forno a few times and love the freshness and strong flavours. We turned up once right before closing time and the frienldy staff even gave us some stuff for free! Don't setle with the big chains of Quality Bakers or crap like that, try a delicious unique experience at Il Forno in Mackelvie St. Execellent service, fresh bread, what else can you ask?
I go to Il forno most mornings as there food is delicious and the coffee's are some of the best in Auckland. The staff are always so welcoming. I'm one of those fussy and annoying customers that never stick to the menu, yet they never seem to let it bother them and always make the yummiest breakfasts. They're also cheap, this morning I just wanted a piece of mixed grain toast with pesto and tomato and it only cost $2!
