We came here for an after work get-together before Christmas and had a blast in the outdoor courtyard. There was lots of room and a great atmosphere. This is a great bar for all ages and personalities. The nibbles were decent for their price and service was good. (Don't wear a dress though, the outdoor tables can be difficult to get in and out of because they are bench seats!!)

Popped into Jack Tar for a catch up with a friend today and it was amazing! Nice and busy for the lunch time rush but the staff were still attentive. coffee was fantastic and arrived promtly and nice and hot. Ended up staying for lunch and ordered the lamb burger - it was amazing and HUGE! The lamb patty was made with feta throughout it and all of the ingrediants were fresh and delicious. It was presented extremely well and came with a bowl of the biggest handcut chips ive ever seen! The prices were fantastic for a waterfront bar (4 coffees and two huge & delicious meals was $54) First hour of parking is free at Wynard Qtr and only $2 every 2 hours after. Definitely a great place to go for food.

Went to Jack Tar for my birthday dinner with a group of friends. There were a few things I thought could be improved. 1. The waitress staff, whilst friendly, did not look particularly happy to be there and also asked some really strange questions about our ordering making it confusing for everyone. 2. My starter came out before the main meals, which is great- I was the only one to get a starter at my table. Everyone else's mains came just after that but mine and my husbands came out 15-20 mins later which meant we started eating when everyone was finishing- not really what I'd expect from a restaurant, all the mains should come out at the same time. The food itself was fabulous and really good value- only one complaint from someone in our party and that was the salt and pepper squid was a bit tasteless and tasted more like floury coating. So all in all, the food was great for the price, the service let the place down for us, particularly the timing of serving the mains. I'd expect mains to come out at the same time for everyone.

loved the outside lighting and chained curtains - very styley! Great bar, the food looked pretty nice too!

Nothing better than a spot in the sun with some great seafood and that amazing view! The menu is perfect and somehow has just what you're after at a really reasonable price. The chips (ever-important) are big and crunchy and fluffy without tasting like roast potatoes... they are distinctively 'chippy' and sooo good with the aioli and tomato sauce. We had salt and pepper squid and the beer batter fish and chips which were both amazing. Good attentive service, bringing a jug of water and sauces without us asking. Great spot and a real kiwi experience .. must be amazing in summer!

Right on the waterfront in Wynyard Quarter, this place is one of a number of places that opened just before the Rugby World Cup. It's a great spot in the summer, with lots of outdoor seating in the sun by the quay. Obviously, not so enticing in the winter (although they do have outdoor heaters) - but they are pretty large inside too. Liked the freshly baked bread (delivered as a full loaf) and the thick-cut chips delivered in a steel bucket. The beer and wine selection is fine, if not outstanding. All in all, it's a good stop on a night out at this end of town, especially in the summer if you're heading for Silo Park for the outdoor movies.

Hey thanks for the tip :). I'd never heard of this place. Must've missed it...

Plenty of outdoor seating - great for sunny days. Ordered the Fish & Chips and Pizza Bread- fish was very average, but chips were nice - thick and handcut. The meal came with a small side salad, which was quite tasty. The pizza bread was different to what I've had at other places in the past, but tasted very nice - not much of a garlic flavour, but a sweet flavour - possibly a drizzle of some sort of sauce

This place feels young! Located right on the waterfront it has a fantastic outlook. Inside it is cosy yet fun and alive. The food selection is vast and I must say it took me a few minutes just to look over the menu. This place reminded me of sports bars I have visited in the states without the emphasis on sports and rather the view and live music. Great place for a night of fun and laughs! Service was great too!

It was a Monday and yet this place was still alive with a good smattering of people which gave the shed a good warm feel. The staff were very engaging and the Macs Gold in real "handles" was a treate. I went for the batterred fish and chips (naughty I know) and the Gernard was very lightly battered and a delight, highly recommended. Its worth the walk on an evening to have dinner at Jack Tar.
